Description
Starlight is an original bebop melody written over the chord changes of a popular standard that most jazz players have probably improvised over. After the introduction, the melody is scored like a small bebop group playing the melody in unison. More horn parts are gradually added in until the last section of the tune, where all of the horns are playing a harmonized version of the melody. There are soli section features for the saxophones, trombones and trumpets. It’s a good introduction to every part of the band and can work successfully as a concert opener. Solos are for tenor sax and piano. Starlight is the opening chart on the DCJO CD, AT THE EDGE OF SPRING.
