Description
Geneology is a be-bop tune that was written by New York saxophonist John Metcalf in the early 70s, as he was completing his music degree at the University of Oregon. While at the U of O, John spent much of his time at Lane Community College, and played in the LCC Jazz Ensemble. At that time, Gene Aitken was directing the LCC Jazz Ensemble and the LCC Wind Ensemble. John was not only a great player, but was a great teacher/composer. It was at this time, that jazz articulation started to be codified and used in a few educational institutions in the US. Eric Richards' big band arrangement of Geneology is the first of many more to come.
