This arrangement was written as a tribute and feature for Gary Keller, the long-time saxophone professor at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music whose contributions to jazz saxophone pedagogy are numerous. The chart features no doubles in the saxophones but features flugelhorns and muted brass throughout. Plenty of solo space for the Tenor Sax with understated support from the band. This chart is not range-y and is a nice change of pace for the middle of a program. Wayne’s harmonic language is on full display in Teru and will challenge your band to listen in ways they may not get a chance to that often.
