Description
"Four Brothers" is an SATB swing vocalese treatment of the Jimmy Guiffre composition written for the Woody Herman Band in 1947. The men of the sax section were collectively known as the "Four Brothers." The song, which became a song when Jon Hendricks added the lyrics, is in AABA format and is based on the chord changes of "Jeepers Creepers."
There are 5 vocalese solos based on the Woody Herman sax section : Zoot Sims, Serge Chaloff, Herbie Steward , Stan Getz and Woody Herman.( clarinet) I would like singers to learn the solos by listening to the original recording, and so they are not transcribed.
I believe the challenge with this arrangement is learning to sing and blend as more of an instrumental section and to sing with both swing and smoothness. Dynamics, story telling and jazz articulations are also part of this.
