Bingo Miki
Composer and bandleader, Bingo Miki, began his Inner Galaxy Orchestra (IGO) in 1978 after completing his studies in composition and arranging at Berklee School of Music in Boston, and at the Vienna Conservatory of Music in Germany. Upon returning to Tokyo, he became involved in the competitive music scene in film, television, and theatrical shows.
The development and history of the IGO concept is well documented through 10 recordings which have been released throughout the years. Two of these releases, Scandinavian Suite and Back to the Sea received the distinguished Jazz Disk Award of Japan.
The Inner Galaxy Orchestra’s touring history includes two performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival and the North Sea Jazz Festival from which the European press acclaimed the ensemble as the “Sensation From the East.” The audience’s appreciation of the IGO is based on the leader’s unique concept of a synthesis of jazz and the aesthetics of traditional Japanese culture.
The presentation in performance by the orchestra itself includes the top, first-class musicians in Tokyo. The Japanese flavor is also apparent by the presence and sounds of Japanese traditional instruments. The concept of the IGO orchestra has been displayed in Los Angeles and London in performances and recordings in which the orchestra also invited outstanding local musicians.
It is upon this foundation that Mr. Bingo Miki is endeavoring to continue the development of the Inner Galaxy Orchestra. Without resting on past laurels and continuing with and eye focused on the future. This is the personal motto and goal of this unique artist from the Far East.
