Socrates Garcia
Dominican-American composer, arranger, producer, recording engineer, bandleader, guitarist, and educator. He currently is Professor of Music/Director of Music Technology at the Jazz Studies Program of the University of Northern Colorado.
Garcia's recording and performing credits include the multiple Grammy winning album Yo Por Ti by Olga Tañon, Milly Quezada’s Tesoros de mi Tierra (14th on Billboard’s Tropical Song charts), and national and international performances with the Socrates Garcia Latin Jazz Orchestra and UNC’s Compass jazz Orchestra, including multiple performances at the Jazz Education Network (JEN) conferences and a recent tour to the Dominican Republic.
As a touring musician he has performed all-over Latin America and the Caribbean and presented clinics and workshops on music technology and jazz composition/arranging, nationally and internationally.
His latest album, Back Home (MAMA Records), performed by the Socrates Garcia Latin Jazz Orchestra, is a symbiotic combination of Afro-Dominican and Afro- Caribbean genres within the aesthetic of contemporary orchestral jazz. An award- winning album, it has received numerous accolades by critics and jazz fans alike, both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Garcia is a Strandberg Guitars artist, featured artist for Warm Audio, and voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards) for both the Grammys and the Latin Grammys.
