Description
This big band arrangement keeps the flavor of Herbie Hancock’s classic tune with a few minor twists and turns added by composer and arranger John Yao. The chart begins with a rubato chorale introduction that weaves in and out of several interesting reharmonizations. The melody features a variety of colorful orchestrations, countermelodies and textures that leads to the solo section. Solos in the tenor sax and trumpet are followed by a vamp with ample space for a drum solo that builds to a soaring tutti out chorus. The chart closes out with colorful cluster voicings that culminates in a light, understated pyramid. This chart works well if you are looking to slow things down or need a change of pace in your program.
